just found your site. nice work.
Wonderful shot. This reminds me of my great-grandfather who was invalided out of the first world war with shrapnel in his lungs, a full army pension, and a warning that he had only two years to live as a consequence of his injuries. He constantly had a pipe in his mouth and lived till he was 84 :-)
that's a nice story about your great-granddad. they're a vanishing breed, the pipe chomping vets ;)
i've no idea what the story behind this guy is. i was taking pictures in a nursing home.
your portraits always leave room for us to imagine a story for the face :-)
oh just WOW!..These b/w's are stunning!
"Just wow" about sums it up...beautiful portrait! He looks as if he has some stories to tell...and you captured that very well.
Another great photo with expression! I always wanted to go to a nursing home and take a few shots. How do they deal with random strangers coming in to take photos like that? I've always wondered that....
(found your site thru photoblogs.com)
hmm... i wouldn't recommend the random stranger approach. i think they're pretty sensitive about that kind of thing, actually. i was in there taking pics for other reasons (for their website) and just snapped a few of the residents while i was at it...
~xlnt candid portrait/expression on the subject...did you intend to shave off a bit from the right, by a crop, or is this full frame no crop?~
there was something in the way there that i cropped in photoshop. i think he was behind a door.
