In this one, the powerlines look as if they belonged here all along... wow Matto!
Posted by HiMY [photopia] at July 5, 2005 02:08 AMIt's seems to be a set of a representation. Whatis it?
Great pic, as usual for your work.
Many compliments
Awesome shot. It's a shame about the powerlines, but I love everyhting else about this one!
Posted by owen at July 5, 2005 07:20 AMit's a reenactment of the battle of gettysburg (american civil war). it's on the same field where the catual battle took place.
i like the powerlines ;)
Posted by matto at July 5, 2005 07:37 AMImpressive colouring.
Posted by Flippy_D at July 5, 2005 09:58 AMHow surreal!
Posted by Darren at July 5, 2005 10:29 AMHow interesting a shot is this. I actually LIKE that you left the powerlines in there. I would imagine that you could have re-composed this shot to exclude them, or done some creative stamping in photoshop to remove them. Yet they add a reference point and surrealness to the re-enactment scene.
Great job.
Posted by Houser at July 5, 2005 06:31 PMI've never commented on your blog before, even though I check it every couple days or so, but I loved this shot so much I felt compelled to post. The composition is incredible, and I especially love the clouds in this shot. What can I say? I'm a sucker for cloudscapes. Great job!
Posted by Crelfan at July 5, 2005 10:33 PMWow - I love the color treatment
Posted by novon at July 6, 2005 12:33 AMThis is the first I've seen of your blog and I absolutely love this photo... completely outstanding! What wonderful earthy colors. Thanks for sharing!
Posted by Kim at July 6, 2005 10:47 AMWOW-terrific shot-great colors-it has an epic, grandiose and gallant feel-the powerlines add to the sense of endless depth of field-and when I first noticed them they provided a bit of comic relief, sort of like discovering one of the horsemen on a cell phone-anyway, great shot!
Posted by Gary at July 6, 2005 04:23 PMVery nice.
Posted by Patrick at July 6, 2005 05:37 PMDamn, dude. You were down this way again? Wish I'd known. Would have loved to go to the reenactment. This is amazingly well exposed. Great cloud detail and everything. Love the slightly desaturated colors, too.
Posted by Alec Long at July 6, 2005 10:54 PMGreat stuff, love the colour treatment. I swear I saw you photographing a guy outside the eaton centre yesterday, I was on a street car.
Posted by miles at July 7, 2005 01:15 PMmiles, was he shining my shoes?
Posted by matto at July 7, 2005 01:21 PMMatt, love this photograph. One of your best in the series that I just looked at. I like this one better because I think it's less contrasty than the man and woman in the field. High noon photography is tough, I know. I like the velvia-like colors in the man-woman shot, but maybe the contrast is too high?? This one really rocks, though, helped a lot by the hanging smoke in the air. The only thing that puzzles me is the purple/green tinge to the smoke across the mid screen. I've shot blackpowder and never have saw this, almost as though the shot is through a bit of glass and catching some reflections. Doesn't bother me, though, just is a puzzle and I still appreciate the shot and love the juxtaposition of the battle vs power lines.
